I learned about pixel art for the first time during my first year at LUCA School of Arts, campus C-mine.
‘Pixel art’ is the art of creating art with pixels. That's why the artworks are so tiny. That's also why some proportions are nearly impossible to make. Pixels can only be flat or isometric. Therefore, you cannot create depth.
Some pixel art fans create vibrant isometric cities. It's beautiful. You can look it up / find many outstanding examples at Google. Some look like the games we used to play (the old Sims games, Mario, …), you get the picture.
My inspiration for this: the cosines of the C-Mine site. Three buildings are visible: the mine shaft (which was very difficult to build isometric),
You can see the making of in three steps. First, I had to made sure that the shaft would be recognizable. I made an outline, but had to adapt it to the isometric view, or as you can see the pixels would have been choppy. Few animations where added.
I also learned that, because pixels are super tiny, they take a lot of time to fill up. So much respect for the old game makers in that regard.
